Fanshawe College officially opens its state-of-the-art Innovation Village

There’s a new space at Fanshawe College for students, employees and industry partners to come together for hands-on learning, problem solving and collaboration. Innovation Village officially opened its doors at the heart of Fanshawe’s main campus on Friday, boasting 95,000 square feet of meeting spaces, study pods, and labs where students, employees and industry can come together.

Innovation Village is designed to promote partnerships with businesses that will foster research, innovation, and education, allowing students to then transition into the workforce or take an entrepreneurial path. Fanshawe College President Peter Devlin said the focus is on being able to adapt to changes in society and technology.
Tesla dealership seeks green light to come to London, Ont.

Electric vehicle giant Tesla is seeking permission to build a dealership and service centre in south London. On Monday, the Planning and Environment Committee (PEC) considered a request to permit an automotive sales and service establishment at 3234-3274 Wonderland Road South at the southeast corner with Bradley Avenue. The Tesla dealership would be one of the largest in Canada, and serve customers throughout southwestern Ontario.
Second housing tower to be constructed, 15 years after Alma College fire in St. Thomas, Ont.

It’s a moment burned in the memory of St. Thomas residents. The historic Alma College (went up in flames 15 years ago) on May 28, 2008 after the fire was set by local teenagers. In the past five years, the property was purchased, a massive housing project was proposed, and an eight-story tower has been built, with a capacity of 156 units. Among the residents is third-generation Alma College graduate Jane-Ann Tasker. “I just feel like I’m at home again,” she said.

A vintage building sitting on a prime location on Port Stanley’s harbour could soon house a new southwestern Ontario lakeside attraction. Council is expected to approve lease to own deal to create a new microbrewery and restaurant at the Dominion of Canada (DOC) building.

The developer of a proposed apartment complex at 141 King George Rd. in Brantford describes the project as an “ultra luxury, purpose-built rental community.” Buildings would feature large luxurious suites for all age groups, with an indoor pool, rooftop lounge and a gym, all overlooking Mayfield Park.
‘It will be a landmark property once again’; Concrete foundation poured at former Alma College site

It was being billed as the ‘largest one-day concrete pour in Southwestern Ontario history’. At the site of the former Alma College in downtown St. Thomas, Ont., Sierra Construction was laying the foundation for the first of three future apartment buildings. “We have 2700 cubic meters of concrete today, and there is 300 tons of rebar in there,” as he pointed down below to the massive hole in the ground. Twenty-five trucks per hour came in and out of the site off Ross St. as they poured the 1.6-metre foundation for Phase One of the Alma College Square development.

Fanshawe College School of Hospitality & Culinary Arts and School of Information Technology, by Diamond Schmitt Architects and Phil Agar Architect, Architect in Joint Venture in association with ERA Architects. The transformation of London, Ontario’s 19th-century Kingsmill’s Department Store, into a multi-disciplinary centre of learning for Fanshawe College has resulted in a 10,600-square-metre building, home to the Schools of Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Arts and Information Technology.

A former department store now houses state-of-the-art academic facility designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects and Philip Agar Architect for Fanshawe College in downtown London, Ont. The 10,600sm building transforms a historic store into a vibrant urban campus. Some of the original features and materials are incorporated in the newly built facility, which retains its street character fronting on Dundas Street.
New $66M Fanshawe building aims to connect students with employers

The culinary arts students at Fanshawe College’s new downtown building will probably train in kitchens far better than the ones they’ll find at their first restaurant job. Located in the former Kingsmills department store at 130 Dundas St. west of Richmond, the $66-million building features natural light, large open spaces and state-of-the-art teaching kitchens.
