Elmdale Health Centre is a renovation and alteration project that repurposes the historic Elmdale Public School building to bring integrated healthcare services to St. Thomas. Originally completed in 1920, Elmdale Public School celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017. The school, notable for being the first in Ontario to include a gymnasium in its original design, served the community for many decades before becoming vacant after the opening of John Wise Public School in 2009. With this transformation, the Elmdale Health Centre now provides new medical services, including the addition of new physicians, while maintaining the architectural heritage of the school. This project serves as a testament to the community’s evolving healthcare needs, blending modern medical facilities with the building’s rich history.
