FANSHAWE COLLEGE - M BUILDING

FANSHAWE COLLEGE - M BUILDING

London, ON

Client:       Fanshawe College

Year:          2002

Status:      Complete

Size:           28,000 s.f. (2,061 s.m.)

This 88,300 square foot academic facility is organized over three 28,000 square foot floors and connected to the existing campus building by a two-storey, 2,200 square foot link. The project also includes a separate 5,000 square foot teaching greenhouse designed for the Landscape Department.

The building supports a comprehensive media and technology program, housing two television studios, dedicated radio and television production suites, the 6X radio station, multiple edit rooms, computer labs, classrooms of varying sizes, and academic space for radio programming. Two IT server rooms are integrated within the facility—one serving the department and another supporting the broader college—alongside divisional office space.

Architecturally, the building balances clarity and warmth. A brick exterior establishes continuity with the surrounding campus, while a curved concrete block volume with stone accents defines the lounge. This curved wall echoes the arched form of the main entrance, where a curtain wall sits within the entry arch, creating a subtle dialogue between the two elements. Carefully framed openings and the interplay of masonry and concrete give the building a distinct identity while maintaining a grounded, institutional presence.
